There are lots of opportunities to get involved with wildlife surveys throughout Somerset.
Joining one or more of the specialist interest groups is a great way to get actively involved in recording in the county. Between them members have a wealth of knowledge about the natural history of the county and they survey for and submit the majority of species records held by SERC.
If you are not sure if you have the skills or knowledge to help, or would like more of an introduction then why not come along to our monthly introductory session run by Tony, SERC’s Data Management Officer.
Current surveys you can sign up to get involved with;
River Tone survey
If you have any time to get out wildlife spotting or if you’re just out for a walk along the river, please let us know what you see. We are particularly interested in hearing about plants (including invasive species such as Himalayan balsam, water fern New Zealand pigmy weed), birds, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies although any records and photographs would be appreciated. ID guides and help are available.
Booking is essential for all of the above- please email Records@somerc.com
